Scheduling a backup
The computer must be switched on in order for the scheduled backup to occur. The backup software DOES NOT HAVE TO BE OPEN in order for a scheduled backup to take place, as it will automatically start up prior to the scheduled backup time. You will not see the backup software open or the progress meter unless you open it and select the Backup Status option ont he toolbar at the time the back up is taking place.
- To schedule a backup, first select the files required as described in selecting data for backup.
- Set the required scheduling options by completing the fields of the schedule section located at the bottom of the backup window. For further information about completing the fields, see table below:
The following scheduling information is completed by selecting the required option available from the drop down menus or boxes associated with each field:
| Start time and date | Adjust the time and date for the scheduled backup to occur. Options include: hours, minutes, days, date and month. |
| Frequency | States the rate of recurrence associated with the backup. Options include: hourly, daily, weekly, monthly. |
| Backup cycle | Refers to the number of backups within a definition to be stored. Options include: any number between 1 and 999. |
| Active | Sets whether the status of a backup definition is due to occur as scheduled Options include: on or off. A tick shows it is on. |
The above process describes how to carry out a SCHEDULED backup, to carry out a MANUAL backup follow this process:

Select the definition you wish to backup.
- Select the Backup Now icon from the toolbar or select File > Backup Now from the menu.
Note: If you are saving more than one definition, the backup software automatically schedules them to take place at different times so there are no conflicts. If you override the default time set with your own, please ensure that they are still scheduled to back up at different times.
