Backup Schedule

These settings are used for scheduling automatic backups:

SettingDefinition
Start time

Set the time and date that you want the automatic backup to commence.

Options include: hours, minutes, day, date and month.

Frequency

Set the regularity that you want automated backups to occur.

Options include: hourly, daily, weekly, monthly.

Backup cycle

Set the number of incremental file versions within a definition to be backed up and retained by us. Allows for multiple versions of the same file to be backed up for future retrieval.

Example:

A standard back up routine could follow a seven-day cycle, starting on a Monday at 18.00.

  1. The specified files would be backed up on Monday evening.
  2. On Tuesday evening at 18.00 the system would automatically check the files within a backup definition specified for any new files or those that may have been changed since Monday.
  3. If there are any new or changed files, these will then be backed up and would be kept alongside Monday's original backup.
  4. The same procedure would then follow for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.
  5. All versions of these files would be kept for the defined backup cycle period of seven days.
  6. At the beginning of the next week, the preceding Monday's files will be erased and the newest versions will take their place. All files will then be effectively carried forward and the cycle will start again.
  7. In this example, a total of seven versions of the specified backup files are retained by us.
  8. This routine can be adapted to suit individual methods of working and up to 999 versions of each file could be retained if so required. This is achieved by changing the number in the Backup cycle box. The default setting is 30.
  9. The daily cycle backups will appear as a subset of the original backup definition. To view a subset, click on the restore screen and then click on the required backup definition in the restore screen. Any subsets available will then become visible.
Set Active

Adjusts the status of a backup definition and if it is currently set to occur as scheduled.

Note: The default setting for this option is "Active". A tick indicates that the backup will occur as scheduled. No tick indicates that the backup will not occur.
